Even with celebrity fans like Beyoncé and Kendall Jenner, Rebel Rebel offers a down-to-earth accessibility to its own unique take of wacky floral curation to East London.
117 Mare Street
It’s common knowledge that Mare Street Market puts the best of East London under one roof. It’s little wonder, then, that Rebel Rebel calls the cultural haven its home; offering a slice of the most cutting-edge in floristry design all year round.
With an unorthodox but undeniably covetable floristry style, it’s no wonder that Rebel Rebel were (flower)-crowned the Gold Award for Innovation at Chelsea in Bloom last year for their green-fingered creations.
The shop itself is completely immersive; not your typical retail experience at all. With no obvious counter and florists crafting beautiful bouquets in the centre of the space, it’s an atmosphere whose amount of comfort is only matched by the sweet fragrance of flowers selected from Covent Garden every single morning (you can always be guaranteed fresh blooms with Rebel Rebel).
Founded in 2000 out of a sheer love for everything floral, Rebel Rebel has gone on to become a multi-award winning fleur-de-force; creating bespoke design for events, weddings and even pieces for Vogue to adorn the famous faces of Kendall Jenner and Beyoncé.
But don’t think that their stellar client list means that Rebel Rebel aren’t incredibly dedicated to the creative community they call home; bouquets can be purchased instore an experience which allows you to watch them being made in front of you by the skilled Rebels themselves. There’s a reason that Rebel Rebel have chosen Mare Street Market and Hackney as their home, as there’s still such an obvious emphasis and love for carefully curated visuals and craftsmanship despite their international notoriety.
“There’s a very sense of social togetherness in everything they do.”
This is an ethos perpetuated by their initiative to give back to their community, with workshops designed to pass on the floristry skills garnered from nearly 20 years of experience. There is also the opportunity to study installation floristry for those looking to add a seriously impressive string to their bow; allowing you to plan a large scale event piece from conception to execution.
There’s a very beautiful sense of social togetherness to everything Rebel Rebel do, and it’s what’s kept them grounded in the wonderful artistic community on their doorstep, and is probably what has made them the go-to for sublime floristry in the community.
